IWC Schaffhausen Pilot
Perhaps the most iconic collection of the International Watch Company (IWC), the Pilot's watch collection has a cockpit-instrument look and oversized crowns, a link to older aviation watch models. The striking crown on Big Pilot's watch is large so the pilots were able to set and wind the watch while wearing thick gloves and a padded suit. For increased legibility, the dial of Pilot's watches has been reduced to only essentials with luminescent hands and numerals that stand out against the dark background. Also a nod to visibility, the triangle positioned at 12 o'clock allowed pilots to instantly recognize the position of the hands at a glance.
Within the Pilot's watch family, there are 5 collections: Classic, Top Gun, Spitfire, Le Petit Prince and Antoine de Saint Exupery. Classic IWC Pilot's watches include the Big Pilot's Watch 43, the Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 and more. These classic watches are a nod to the first IWC Pilot's watches and have the same instrument look as they did in the 1930s and 1940s. The Top Gun collection sports black ceramic cases and represents well-known models such as the Pilot's Watch Chronograph Top Gun, the Big Pilot's Watch Top Gun "Mojave Desert" and more. The Pilot's Watch Spitfire collection pays tribute to the technology of the legendary spitfire fighter plane. Spitfire models include the Pilot's Watch Chronograph Spitfire, Pilot's Watch Automatic Spitfire and more. The "Le Petit Prince" special edition timepieces with the trademark blue dials commemorate the story "The Little Prince", one of the best-selling books in history by Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The Antoine de Saint Exupery special edition watches with brown dials are dedicated to the author who described the excitement of aviation more vividly than any other author.
