At age 27, American engineer and watchmaker Florentine Ariosto Jones made the decision to adventure overseas to start a watch company. Jones started the International Watch Company (IWC) with the help of Swiss watchmakers, modern technology and hydropower sourced from the River Rhine. With a clear focus on technology and development, the Swiss watch manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen has been producing timepieces of lasting value since 1868. Since 1875, the IWC headquarters has been on the banks of the River Rhine.
Moyer Fine Jeweler’s bestselling collection from IWC is the Pilot’s watch collection. Conceived as navigation instruments for aviators, Pilot’s watches are the quintessential tool for modern-day explorers. One of IWC’s most popular Pilot’s watch is the “Le Petit Prince” chronograph edition (IW377714). The “Le Petit Prince” special-edition timepiece with its trademark blue dial commemorates the literary work of Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s “The Little Prince.” “The Little Prince” is one of the bestselling books in literary history. On the back of the case, there is a depiction of the little prince.
The Spitfire models of the Pilot’s collection are also among bestsellers at Moyer Fine Jewelers. The Spitfire collection pays tribute to the elegance and cutting-edge technology of the legendary fighter plane. Our most popular models are IW326801 Automatic Spitfire, IW387901 Chronograph Spitfire and the IW389104 Chronograph “Top Gun” “SFTI” edition.
At the end of the 1930s, IWC built a large wristwatch with the precision of a pocket watch at the request of Portuguese merchants. This noticeably large and striking wristwatch was first launched in 1939. The Portugieser is one of the oldest and best-known watches from IWC. The Portugieser has simple Arabic numerals, slim feuille hands and a railway-track-style chapter ring. Some of the most popular models of the Portugieser collection are the Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 42 (IW344202, IW503302), the Portugieser Automatic (IW500705), and the Portugieser Chronograph (IW371605).
Named after the coastal Mediterranean city of Portofino with its timeless elegance and glamour, the IWC reflects a sophisticated lifestyle. Portofino collection watches are one of the most recognizable collections within the IWC lineup. Portofino watches are the only collection that utilizes roman numerals on the dials. Portofino Automatic, Portofino Chronograph and Portofino Moonphase watches are all very popular amongst watch collectors.
